Hammer and Tongue Performance Poetry Masterclass.
With slam winning performance poets Rosy Carrick and Jonny Fluffypunk.
10 am – 4 pm. Saturday 6th December.
Brighton Writers’ Centre.
Price £40 or £30 Concessionary Rates and Friends of THE SOUTH
Participants at this exclusive masterclass will learn about writing for the immediacy of the performance environment, constructing a suitable piece and then 'bringing it to life' on the stage. As well as exploring useful poetic devices for writing performance poetry, we'll also go on to examine aspects of stagecraft, such as projecting emotion, performance 'attitude', taking the stage and creating a sense of rapport with an audience. As such, the workshop would be useful not only to budding 'performance' poets, but also to diehard 'page' poets who are seeking ways to add variety and 'life' to readings.
About the Workshop Leaders
Jon Seagrave has been writing and performing poetry for over 10 years, latterly under the nom-de-plume of Jonny Fluffypunk. He has run workshops for both infants and pensioners, and currently co-runs workshops in performance with Tony Allen ('the godfather of alt. comedy') in London.
In addition to the performance of her own poetry, Rosy Carrick runs workshops for children and adults across the UK and is the host of Brighton's burlesque cabaret club night 'Lipstick on your Collar'. Both Jon and Rosy are UK approved slam coaches as part of Colourfree Visions Theatre, and the hosts of Hammer & Tongue at Komedia Brighton.
