FICTIONALISING AUTOBIOGRAPHY: a new weekend course with Janet Cameron and Paul Curd

Friday 12 – Sunday 14 September
Brighton Writers’ Centre

This course explores the potential for autobiography to ‘make the ordinary seem extraordinary’. Some people write autobiography to leave a record for their family while others realise the potential of their experience as material for apparent fictional writing. Whatever your style, you can learn techniques that will help you to produce lively, original work.

You’ll look at excerpts by established authors to see how they deal with problems confronting all writers, followed by a close examination of the techniques of fiction and experimenting with imagery, narrative, dialogue, character development, physicality, timeframes and psychological depth. You’ll learn to write, edit and revise a short story which demonstrates the techniques of crafting, style, originality and understanding of structure. With well-published, award-winning writers and teachers Janet Cameron and Paul Curd, co-founders of Word Fountain.
